Trauma Therapy in Manchester

Trauma can affect how you think, feel and relate to the world around you. Whether it came from a single event or a longer period of distress, the impact can last long after the situation has passed. You might feel anxious, disconnected, overwhelmed or unsure how to move forward. You don’t have to work through it alone.

As a Trauma-Informed BACP-registered therapist, I offer one-to-one trauma counselling in Manchester. Our sessions provide a calm and confidential space to explore what happened and how it is affecting you now. There’s no pressure to share more than you feel ready for — we’ll work at your pace, in a way that feels safe and supportive.

If you want to begin making sense of your experience, I’m here when you feel ready.

Understanding Trauma

Trauma is the emotional response to something that felt overwhelming, frightening or out of your control. It could have been a one-off event, like an accident or assault, or something that happened over time, such as ongoing abuse, neglect, bullying, or feeling unsafe in your environment. What matters most is not whether the experience seems “big enough,” but how it affected you.

When something overwhelms our ability to cope, it can leave a lasting imprint, not just in our thoughts and emotions, but in our nervous system, relationships, and sense of self. You might feel anxious, disconnected, constantly on edge or emotionally numb. Flashbacks, nightmares, sleep problems, or sudden changes in mood are also common.

Sometimes trauma shows up in quieter ways, difficulty trusting others, low self-worth, intense reactions to stress, or a persistent sense that something’s wrong, even if you can’t explain it. For many people, these patterns have been in place for so long they feel like part of who they are.

How Trauma Therapy Can Help

Therapy offers a safe, confidential space where your experience will be taken seriously. You don’t need to explain everything clearly, and you won’t be pushed to revisit memories before you're ready. The focus is on helping you feel steadier, more in control, and less held back by the past.

Together, we might explore:

  • How trauma is showing up in your body, mind or relationships

  • Emotional numbness, dissociation, or difficulty staying present

  • Patterns of avoidance, fear or hypervigilance

  • The impact of past trauma on your self-worth or identity

  • Tools to help with grounding, regulation and safety

This work is not about forcing closure or “moving on.” It’s about giving yourself the space and support to begin healing, in your own time, and on your own terms.

My Approach

Trauma work requires care, patience and trust. I won’t ask you to share more than you want to. We’ll go at a pace that feels safe and manageable, with a strong focus on helping you feel grounded throughout our sessions.

My approach is Trauma-Informed person-centred, which means you’re in control of where we start and what we explore. I’ll offer consistent, compassionate support as we begin to understand what’s going on for you — emotionally, mentally and physically.

When helpful, I may draw on elements of Transactional Analysis (TA), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), or trauma-informed practice, particularly if we’re working with triggers, dissociation or long-standing emotional patterns. But we’ll only use what feels supportive — never what feels too much.

Why work with me

I’m a Level-4 certified BACP-registered therapist (you can see my credentials here) with additional training in trauma, complex PTSD, emotional regulation and attachment. I’ve worked with people navigating all kinds of trauma, including experiences that were denied, dismissed or never fully acknowledged.

You don’t need to relive everything to begin healing. You just need a space where you feel safe, heard and in control of your own story. That’s what I offer, and we’ll take it one step at a time.

Ready to begin?

If trauma is still affecting your daily life or emotional wellbeing, I offer a free 15-minute consultation. You’re welcome to ask questions, share a little about what’s been going on, or simply see how it feels to speak.
