Existentialism Therapy in Manchester
At certain points in life, we may find ourselves asking bigger questions. What am I doing with my life? What really matters? Why do I feel lost or directionless? These thoughts can be unsettling, especially when they don’t seem to have obvious answers. Therapy can provide space to explore these questions in a thoughtful and grounded way.
As a BACP-registered therapist, I offer one-to-one counselling in Manchester to support people navigating existential concerns. Our work might touch on identity, meaning, purpose or life direction. There’s no agenda and no pressure to figure everything out. We’ll sit with the questions and see where they lead.
If you’re looking for support with these deeper life concerns, I’m here to listen and help you explore.
Understanding Existentialism
At some point in life, many people begin to ask bigger questions. You might be wondering who you really are, what your purpose is, or why life feels so uncertain. These questions don’t always come with clear answers, and that in itself can feel unsettling.
Sometimes existential concerns arise after a major life event: a loss, a health crisis, a career shift or simply a quiet feeling that the way you’ve been living no longer fits. You might feel lost, disconnected or unsure of what matters to you. It can be hard to talk about these thoughts with others, especially if they seem abstract or hard to pin down.
Therapy doesn’t promise quick answers to life’s biggest questions. But it can offer space to sit with them, and to begin making sense of what feels meaningful, difficult or unknown.
How Therapy Can Help With Existentialism
Existential therapy gives you space to explore your experience of being human, in all its uncertainty, complexity and depth. There’s no need to be in crisis to benefit. You might be feeling stuck, restless or simply ready to reflect on the direction your life is taking.
Together, we might explore:
-
A sense of meaninglessness or feeling unfulfilled
-
Anxiety about choice, freedom or change
-
Identity and self-understanding
-
Fear of death or uncertainty around endings
-
Shifts in values or beliefs
-
What brings purpose, connection or joy, if you're unsure where to look
Rather than searching for the “right” answer, therapy can help you get clearer on what feels true for you. It’s not about fixing your thinking — it’s about deepening your understanding of who you are and what matters to you.
My Approach
These kinds of questions take time. My approach is person-centred, which means I don’t offer set answers or impose my own view. Instead, I’ll support you to explore your thoughts and feelings in a way that feels steady, respectful and open.
You might want to reflect on life direction, question long-held assumptions, or process the unease that sometimes comes with change. We can work gently and at your pace, whether that means talking about your past, the choices in front of you, or the emotions that sit beneath the surface.
When helpful, I may bring in elements from Transactional Analysis (TA) or Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), especially if we’re exploring self-criticism, avoidance or thought patterns that make it harder to feel at peace. But the focus will remain on reflection, self-understanding, and reconnecting with your own sense of meaning.
Why work with me

Whether you’re going through a major change or sitting with quiet questions you can’t shake, I’ll offer a calm, curious space to talk, reflect and reconnect with yourself. You don’t need a crisis to begin — just a wish to look inward and make space for what’s there.
